What is Child & Adolescent Counselling?
Children & Adolescents face many challenges in their young lives
including family breakdowns, bullying, bereavement, relationship
difficulties, exam pressures, peer group expectations and the search for
an identity which feels comfortable and secure. Sadly, due to the
changes in society many children no longer have extended families to
turn to for emotional support, which may lead them to internalise their
anxieties and negative emotions or act them out through angry
self-harming behaviours.
Counselling provides a safe non-judgemental environment in which a young
person can identify and discuss painful emotions, establishing links
between these and any negative behaviours. Through this process, the
young person becomes empowered to make choices about their life and
their emotional discomfort eases. I utilise a variety of theoretical
approaches and techniques appropriate to the Childs developmental age,
including Play and Art therapy, Cognitive Behavioural therapy,
Psychodynamic and Person centred techniques.
