Registered as a UKRCP Independent Counsellor/Psychotherapist
Qualifications and Experience
I qualified in 1997 and have worked as a counsellor within GPs surgeries
for the South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as part of a
Primary Care team for 5 years, and at The Young Peoples’ Counselling
Service, Brentwood, as well as within my own private practice.
When may counselling help?
For most of us there are times in our lives when we can feel overwhelmed
by painful or difficult feelings. Counselling can help in these
situations.
I have worked with people with the following issues: relationship
difficulties, family breakdown, bereavement, depression, anxiety, low
self-esteem; feelings of anger, isolation, loneliness; difficulty coping
with loss or change; lack of life-purpose, work stress, bullying,
self-harm, sexual or emotional abuse, and unresolved painful feelings
from the past.
Counselling offers an opportunity:
-
to talk
confidentially with a professional therapist in a safe space
-
to build a
relationship of trust where painful feelings can be expressed
-
to sensitively
explore and understand difficult feelings
-
to develop
your inner resources
-
to become more
empowered
Person-Centred
Counselling
I follow a person-centred approach to counselling, the essential
qualities of which are: to create a safe, supportive and therapeutic
environment; a total acceptance of the person; a desire to be empathic
and to understand that person, and a commitment to being ‘genuine’ or
‘real’ in the relationship.
